Delaware CTE Pathways Strategic Plan Updated Through to 2028!
The Delaware Pathways Strategic Implementation Plan through 2028 provides a statewide roadmap for strengthening career-connected education. Key features include expanding high-quality career pathways, scaling work-based learning for students, aligning K-12, postsecondary, and workforce systems, integrating education and workforce data, coordinating funding and policy supports, and deepening partnerships among educators, employers, and community organizations to prepare Delaware learners for high-demand careers.
Delaware Awarded $1.5M to Strengthen CTE Pathways, Dual Enrollment, and Youth Apprenticeships
Delaware has been awarded a $1.5 million Pathways Impact Fund (PIF) grant to strengthen and expand its nationally recognized career pathways system serving more than 30,000 students across 41 public high schools. This effort reflects a strong partnership among Rodel, the Delaware Department of Education’s Career & Technical Education (CTE) Office, and the Higher Education Office to better connect secondary education, postsecondary opportunities, and workforce needs. Together, these partners are advancing a systems-based approach to strengthen advising, expand dual enrollment and industry recognized credentials, work based learning, youth apprenticeships, and improve alignment between pathways and college and career outcomes for Delaware students.
Delaware lands $1.5M national grant to strengthen career pathways — from middle school to workforce
Seaford School District is highlighted as one of the communities benefiting from Delaware’s expanded career pathways work. Through partnerships with Rodel, higher education institutions, and employers, Seaford students gain access to dual enrollment, career advising, and work-based learning aligned to regional workforce needs. These efforts help students earn credentials and college credit while building clear connections from high school to postsecondary education and careers.
The 2026 Delaware Educators Rising State Leadership Conference featured one of the nation’s only fully student-run Career & Technical Student Organization conferences. Led by 18 Career & Technical Education students and supported by eight culinary programs, students managed operations, marketing, competitions, and hospitality, demonstrating leadership aligned to real workforce roles. Through partnerships with the Delaware Teacher Academy Foundation, Delaware Restaurant Foundation, and the University of Delaware Lerner College of Business and Economics, participants engaged in experiences that strengthened Delaware’s educator workforce pipeline. As Dr. Michael Hill-Shaner shared, “We are preparing students to lead by entrusting them with real responsibility.”

HOSA Students Provide Emergency Care at State Conference
During the 2026 Delaware Educators Rising Conference, Health Sciences pathway students Carter Porter (Indian River High School) and Joshua Soto (Delcastle Technical High School) demonstrated exceptional leadership while responding to an on-site medical emergency. Using skills gained through their Health Sciences coursework and HOSA participation, they provided calm, coordinated care and worked alongside University of Delaware Emergency Medical Services to ensure a smooth transfer of support. Their actions highlight how Delaware’s Career & Technical Education programs prepare students to apply technical skills in real-world situations with professionalism, confidence, and readiness when it matters most. Magnolia Middle & Smyrna High School Win Culinary Challenge
The 2026 Lerner College Culinary Challenge, held in partnership with the University of Delaware Lerner College of Business and Economics and supported by the Delaware Restaurant Foundation and Delaware Teacher Academy Foundation, showcased the talent of Delaware’s middle and high school culinary students. Competing under industry-aligned conditions, students demonstrated technical skill, professionalism, teamwork, and business acumen. Magnolia Middle School and Smyrna High School earned top honors. Through engagement with Lerner faculty and exposure to postsecondary pathways, students strengthened career readiness and confidence, reinforcing Delaware’s seamless pipeline from middle school exploration to high school specialization and future workforce success. Senate Resolution Honors CTE Educators and WBL Coordinators
As Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month concluded in February, Congress recognized the essential role of CTE educators and work-based learning coordinators in preparing 12 million students nationwide for success in high-demand careers. Citing a 97% graduation rate among CTE concentrators and educator shortages in 25 states, the resolution affirms that there is no CTE without CTE educators and calls for strengthened investment and support.
Architectural Engineering Technology and Manufacturing Engineering Technology POS Revion Dates Announced
The office of CTE has launched the redesign of the AET and MET Programs of Study (POS). This effort will bring together representatives from industry, secondary and postsecondary education, and student voices to review program data, examine course sequences, and collaboratively design updated coursework aligned with current engineering practices, emerging technologies, and workforce needs. Scheduled dates include: May 4, 2026; July 20, 2026; Aug 10, 2026; Oct 19, 2026; Nov 9, 2026; Dec 7, 2026; Jan 11, 2027; Jan 25, 2027; Feb 8, 2027; Feb 15, 2027; and Feb 25, 2027. Rookie Teams Shine at Delaware’s Largest‑Ever FIRST Tech Challenge Championship
Delaware’s largest-ever FIRST Tech Challenge State Championship brought 22 teams together for a day of fast-paced matches, innovation, and teamwork. In a standout finale, three rookie teams reached the field, including Team 33463 – Teen Warehouse from Wilmington’s Riverside community. Their success reflected the heart of FIRST Delaware: expanding STEM access, mentoring new teams, and creating a welcoming community where every student can thrive.

Strategic investments in talent, data, and partnerships are strengthening Delaware’s workforce competitiveness and positioning the state as a national leader in innovation. Joanna Staib highlights how collaboration across the Delaware Workforce Development Board, Department of Labor, Department of Education, Career Technical Education, and employers is driving results through apprenticeships, expanded work-based learning, through Delaware CTE Pathways. Delaware Recognized Nationally for Apprenticeship Leadership Under Executive Order No. 1
In a recent article by Inside Higher Ed, Delaware is highlighted for leadership on apprenticeships following Executive Order No. 1. Issued by Governor Matt Meyer, the order created a statewide Apprenticeship and Workforce Development Working Group to expand Registered Apprenticeships. The article notes the state’s involvement alongside other governors studying apprenticeship systems, including discussions at a National Governors Association gathering abroad where Meyer spoke about the importance of earn-and-learn pathways.
Greening of Career Education: Students Learn Skills as Climate Change Advances
Delaware Career & Technical Education (CTE) was highlighted in The Hechinger Report article, “The greening of career education: Students learn new skills they’ll need as climate change advances.” The story recognizes Delaware’s leadership in embedding environmental literacy and sustainability principles across Programs of Study. Through aligned standards, curriculum design and professional learning, Delaware CTE is preparing students with the knowledge and technical skills needed for a resilient, forward-looking workforce

In episode #22 of Implement podcast, Delaware workforce and CTE leaders Joanna Staib (Office of Workforce Development) and Dr. Jon Wickert (Delaware Department of Education) share how they are scaling Delaware Pathways into a statewide strategy for student success. They discuss how clear vision and aligned leadership helped Pathways reach 68% of high school students and 84% of middle school students. Key insights include launching career navigation starting in 6th grade, expanding flexible pathway exploration, and growing work-based learning and apprenticeships statewide.
Grants Available for AP Summer Institute Professional Learning
The College Board is offering participant grants to support teachers attending an AP Summer Institute. Grants help cover tuition for educators new to teaching an AP course and provide access to intensive summer professional learning workshops. Eligible teachers may apply between March and June, or until funds are distributed, through the AP Summer Institutes participant grant program.
Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists (YLACES) is now accepting grant applications to help educators remove barriers to student-led environmental research. Grants of up to $1,500 are available for instruments and supplies, and up to $5,000 is available to support local Student Research Symposia. Applications close March 31, 2026. Selected projects must include authentic environmental research and student data-sharing through public platforms. Apply now to support youth-driven science.
DFSME Seed Grants provide $1,000–$5,000 to support standards-based STEM/STEAM initiatives in Delaware. Funding helps launch new programs, expand successful ones, and reach new populations. Preference is given to research-driven projects with measurable impact. Grants support pilot programs, curriculum development, and professional learning. Rolling applications until funds are exhausted.
The Delaware Foundation for Science and Mathematics Education (DFSME) is offering Mini-Grants to support innovative STEM learning experiences. Open to Delaware educators, these grants fund classroom resources, professional development, and hands-on projects that boost student engagement. Apply today!
The DFSME Shining Light Award honors outstanding STEM educators in formal, informal, and community settings who inspire students as problem-solvers and future leaders. Winners receive a $100 gift card and mini mag flashlight. Nominate a deserving educator by submitting the DFSME Shining Light Nomination Form.
The College Board has released the course and exam description for AP Cybersecurity, a new AP Career Kickstart course launching nationally in 2026–27. The yearlong course introduces students to cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and risk management while building skills in analyzing risks, detecting attacks, and protecting systems and data. Students may also earn college credit and an employer-endorsed credential through the program.
New AP Business with Personal Finance Course Description Released
The College Board has released the course and exam description for AP Business with Personal Finance, a new AP Career Kickstart course launching in the 2026–27 school year. The yearlong course introduces entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, accounting, and management while building personal financial literacy through real-world projects and case studies, helping students prepare for college credit and careers in business.
The Delaware Scholarship Compendium is a comprehensive, user-friendly resource created by the Delaware Higher Education Office to help Delaware students and families explore and apply for national and local scholarships. It serves as a central guide to diverse funding opportunities from private and public organizations, making college more accessible by showcasing a wide variety of awards tailored for in‑state learners. The Critical Needs Reimbursement Program supports Delaware educators teaching on an emergency certificate in designated shortage areas by offering tuition reimbursement for eligible coursework. The updated list of critical needs applies to courses taken between Summer 2025 through Spring 2027. This initiative helps educators gain required credentials while reducing financial burden. Hire Me! Teen Job Fair Helps Delaware Students Prepare for Summer Work
Delaware teens seeking summer jobs can attend the Hire Me! Teen Job Fair and Work Readiness Workshop hosted by the Delaware Department of Labor. Events will be held April 11 at Delaware Tech’s Stanton campus and April 25 at the Terry campus in Dover. Participants can meet employers, learn job readiness skills, understand child labor laws, and obtain work permits onsite during the event day.

The Delaware Advisory Council on Career and Technical Education (DACCTE) is seeking a passionate student to serve as a representative in school year 2026-27 to help shape the future of Career and Technical Education (CTE) in Delaware. The student member will provide insights on how CTE programs can better support career and college readiness, while collaborating with educators, industry professionals, and community leaders to promote innovative and inclusive practices. This is a valuable opportunity to build leadership skills, learn about education policy, and make a meaningful impact. Four meetings are planned for October, December, April, and June. Delaware Tech STEM Expo Brings Hands-On STEM to Life
Delaware Technical Community College invites middle and high school students, families, and educators to attend the Delaware Tech STEM Expo on March 18, 2026, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. This free, high-energy event features interactive student-designed and faculty-led STEM activities, real-world simulations, and opportunities to explore Delaware STEM CTE Pathways and future careers. Coding for Climate Global Project (Spring 2026) is a free four-week program for K–12 students running March 16–April 21. Students learn digital design and coding through weekly guided modules focused on solving real-world environmental challenges. The program blends technical coding skills with sustainability innovation. Presented by Take Action Global and EarthDay.org with partners including Epic Games, LEGO Fortnite, Scratch, micro:bit, Black Girls Code, and Apple.
Students Invited to Enter Organ Donor Awareness Video Scholarship Contest
Delaware high school students are invited to create a short public service announcement promoting organ and tissue donation as part of the 2026 Organ Donor Awareness Video Scholarship Contest. Sponsored by the Delaware Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Board, the competition awards scholarships for winning videos that encourage residents to register as donors. Student submissions are due April 3, 2026.
The National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) is the premier honor society for Career & Technical Education (CTE), recognizing excellence since 1984. With over 1.2 million members, NTHS supports students through career development, leadership, service, and recognition. Partnering with organizations like SkillsUSA, HOSA, BPA, FCCLA, DECA, and TSA and others. NTHS enhances opportunities for CTE students. Delaware FFA State Convention is the biggest state-wide event of the year. It is a two-day event that takes place at the University of Delaware. The convention provides diverse opportunities for all students such as Career and Leadership Development events; State Officer candidate interviews, retirement, and installation; engaging sessions; award presentations; leadership workshops; talent performances; and the opportunity to network with local colleges and companies at the College and Career Fair! The goal of State Convention is to celebrate the hard work and dedication of all of Delaware FFA’s members and supporters.
Delaware HOSA 2026 State Leadership Conference (SLC)
Delaware HOSA’s 2026 State Leadership Conference (SLC) will be held March 24–26, 2026 at Wilmington University’s New Castle Campus. Students from across the state will compete in more than 30 health science, emergency preparedness, teamwork, and leadership events that highlight technical skill, career readiness, and leadership excellence. Participants will also connect with community partners and attend a Speaker Engagement Series focused on healthcare careers and workforce pathways.
CTE Professional Learning and CTSO Event Calendar
The DDOE CTE Professional Learning and CTSO Calendar for 2025-26 document has been updated on Sept 12, 2025. The document outlines key professional development opportunities, conferences, and events for Delaware CTE educators and students. It includes workshops, summer institutes, leadership events, CTSO state and national conferences, and specialized trainings focused on literacy, math, and work-based learning. The document supports educators in aligning CTE programs with workforce needs and enhancing student success through high-quality learning experiences. The College Board has introduced new AP Career Kickstart course and exam descriptions for AP Business with Personal Finance and AP Cybersecurity. These courses expand Advanced Placement opportunities by connecting academic learning with high-demand career fields. Students will build practical skills in financial literacy, business decision-making, and cybersecurity concepts while preparing for future study and careers in business and technology sectors.

CURB Summer RET Opens Applications for 2026
Middle and high school teachers can apply for the CURB Engineering Research Center Summer Research Experience for Teachers (RET), a seven-week program focused on electro-biomanufacturing and curriculum development. Hosted June 14–July 31 at Washington University in St. Louis, Texas A&M/Prairie View A&M, and the University of Delaware, the program offers hands-on research, professional learning, and a $5,000 stipend.
