Join the SREB CTE "Teaching REAL Lab" and Transform Your Teaching!

The Delaware DOE and SREB invite CTE teachers to the yearlong Teaching REAL Lab. Kickoff Oct 8–9, 2025 at DuPont Experimental Station; virtual coaching Jan 20–23 and May 18–22, 2026; Scenario Integration Workshop Feb 19, 2026; Showcase June 17–18, 2026. Collaborate with peers, SREB coaches, and industry to design interdisciplinary, career-connected lessons integrating math, literacy, and science that boost Perkins indicators. Save the Date for Delaware CTSO Fall Leadership Conference, October 14–15, 2025

Mark your calendars! The Delaware CTSO Fall Leadership Conference will be held October 14, 2025, for middle school students and October 15, 2025, for high school students at the University of Delaware. This statewide event brings together BPA, DECA, Educators Rising, FCCLA, HOSA, SkillsUSA, and TSA for leadership development, teamwork, and community engagement. All chapter officers are strongly encouraged to attend, along with students interested in leadership or seeking to grow as rising leaders. More details will be shared soon!

Delaware and Pennsylvania and Lead with New Safety Guides

The International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA) highlights Delaware and Pennsylvania in its Back-to-School Safety Review for their leadership in creating safer Academic and Career & Technical Education (CTE) classrooms. Delaware’s 2025 Safety Guide, developed through the Office of CTE/STEM Initiatives by Mike Fitzgerald and supported by Carrie Evick, Office of Curriculum, Instruction, & Professional Learning, and Pennsylvania’s forthcoming guide were recognized by ITEEA to serve as essential resources for educators. Both align with OSHA standards and professional practices to reduce risks, strengthen safety training, and sustain engaging hands-on learning experiences for all learners. Delaware Sets Standard in CTE Through Data Innovation

The Office of CTE & STEM Initiatives credited for national leadership in Career & Technical Education, recognized by Advance CTE and ECMC Foundation through the Advancing Postsecondary CTE Data Quality Initiative (PDI 2.0). The Office launched a Postsecondary CTE Portal with disaggregated outcomes to strengthen program review and planning, improved system alignment, data accuracy, and streamlined reporting. Delaware’s first public summary of postsecondary outcomes underscores transparency, accountability, and data-driven workforce preparation. Delaware Showcases Nation-Leading CTE Green Jobs Strategy at National Summit

Career and Technical Education Director Dr. Jon Wickert presented Delaware’s nation-leading CTE green-jobs strategy at the Green in CTE summit on September 9, 2025, hosted by Advance CTE and MDRC, which focused on expanding Career and Technical Education’s role in preparing a skilled green workforce. His remarks underscored how Delaware’s integrated environmental-literacy efforts and strategic investments in CTE pathways position the state as a model for building a sustainable economy and meeting future workforce needs. Delaware Leads Nation in Preparing Students for Green Careers and Climate-Ready Workforce

Delaware Career & Technical Education (CTE) is embedding climate resilience and sustainability across pathways to prepare students for green, blue, and clean economy careers. Career and Technical Education Director Dr. Jon Wickert recently shared on September 10, 2025 Delaware’s nation-leading CTE green jobs strategy with the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine’s Education for Thriving in a Changing Climate Committee. These efforts support the Delaware Climate Action Plan, the Chesapeake Bay Agreement, and student science proficiency, as highlighted in a new Advance CTE–NOAA case study and educator resources. Delaware Pathways Spotlighted Nationally for Driving Student Success and Workforce Readiness

Career and Technical Education Director Dr. Jon Wickert participated in the invite-only Pathways to Success: Celebrating a Decade of Impact convening hosted by JPMorgan Chase, where national leaders from education, philanthropy, and business explored the future of pathways innovation. On September 11, 2025, Dr. Wickert highlighted how Delaware’s strategic state-level investments in Delaware Pathways have fueled robust implementation, sustainable growth, and measurable results that expand economic opportunity and prepare students for success in a rapidly changing workforce. New "Pathways" Resource to Help LEAs Apply for CTE POS's

Delaware Pathways has launched a new resource for LEAs to support applications for state-model or local CTE Programs of Study (POS). The site provides step-by-step guidance, including templates, labor market analysis tools, advisory committee requirements, and program matrices. Applications are submitted through the CTE Portal by November 30th, with approvals in January and revisions completed by February for school year implementation.

Get Your Career Started: With Work-Based Learning Experiences

Delaware Business Times feature several of Delaware’s innovative work‑based learning initiatives thats combine classroom instruction with hands‑on experience to boost career potential. Apprenticeships, which allow participants to “earn as you learn,” help avoid student‑loan debt, according to Joanna Staib of the Delaware Workforce Development Board. Recent state efforts, including Governor Matt Meyer’s Executive Order #1, prioritize expanding apprenticeships—especially within state agencies. Open to anyone 16 and older, Delaware apprenticeships now span beyond trades into diverse career fields, offering valuable experience and economic opportunity.

FY26 Delaware CTE Innovation Grant RFA Applications

The FY26 CTE Innovation Grant Request for Application provides Delaware LEAs with guidance to apply for Perkins V funds supporting CTE the following priorities: 1. Support the implementation or revision of Delaware CTE Program of Study (POS); 2. Support for Student Equality and Achievement in College and Career Coursework; 3. Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment (CLNA) support services; 4. Prepare students for career success and support CTE instructors, administrators, and counselors. It includes workshops, summer institutes, leadership events, CTSO state and national conferences, and specialized trainings focused on literacy, math, and work-based learning. Nominate Teachers for STEM Educator Awards! 

Applications are now open for the 2025 Delaware STEM Educator Awards. These awards recognize certified and uncertified teachers or teams of teachers that demonstrate STEM innovation and excellence through teaching, academic collaboration and student engagement. At least three unrestricted cash awards of up to $7,500 will be given to winners at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Applications are due Tuesday, Sept. 30. Over eight weeks, interns will support staff through drafting proclamations, handling constituent calls, and attending events like the cabinet speaker series. Launch Your Ideas with NASA TechRise Student Challenge!

The NASA TechRise Student Challenge is open for grades 6–12! Educator/student teams of all skill levels are invited to submit experiment ideas to fly on a commercial suborbital flight (rocket or high-altitude balloon). Participants gain access to free classroom resources and a fall virtual field trip. Sixty winning teams will each receive $1,500, technical support from NASA advisors, and the chance to launch their experiment on a NASA-sponsored flight. Registration closes on November 3, 2025.

Registration for Girl Power Camp is now open! This free one-day event introduces high school girls to energy careers, including line work, substations, fiber broadband, and advanced-metering technology. Held at Choptank Electric Cooperative in Salisbury, Md., participants learn safety skills, climb poles, operate bucket trucks, and receive career guidance from HR professionals and college advisors. Exploring the Deep Ocean with NOAA Teacher Professional Development

Calling all 6-12 grade educators! Join a NOAA Ocean Exploration facilitator on October 11, 2025 from 8:30am to 4:00pm at the University of Delaware, Newark Campus for a full-day, in-person Exploring the Deep Ocean with NOAA professional development workshop to learn about why and how we explore the deep sea. You will dive into hands-on lessons and activities, explore additional resources to use in your classroom, and have the chance to connect with fellow educators throughout this exciting professional development. Participating educators will also receive a $100 stipend and Certificate of Participation.

Save the date for the Statewide CTE Professional Development Day on October 10, 2025, at the Delaware State Fire School. The tentative schedule includes general sessions, workshops, and Program of Study (POS) time. More details will be shared soon!
